Free influenza vaccination to start on October 22

With the launch of the Government Vaccination Programme (GVP) 2020/21 this Thursday (October 22), the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) appealed to eligible persons to receive free seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) in the public health system to better protect themselves in the coming winter influenza season. Meanwhile, under the Seasonal Influenza Vaccination School Outreach (Free of Charge), the Government will arrange a Public-Private-Partnership Team or a Government Outreach Team to provide free vaccination for schoolchildren in participating schools.

Influenza can cause serious illnesses in high-risk individuals and even healthy persons. Given that influenza vaccines are safe and effective, all persons aged 6 months or above, except those with known contraindications, are recommended to receive SIV for personal protection. Apart from vaccination, effective ways to prevent infection from seasonal influenza include maintaining good personal and environmental hygiene, in particular the proper use of surgical masks, performing hand hygiene at all times, maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, not smoking and avoiding alcohol consumption (www.chp.gov.hk/en/resources/464/29.html).

The CHP also reminds the public that influenza viruses and the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 will possibly both spread in the coming winter influenza season. A person getting influenza and COVID-19 at the same time may be more seriously ill. Getting an influenza vaccine during 2020/21 is therefore important.

The public may call the CHP's telephone number (2125 2125) or visit the
CHP's Vaccination Schemes page for more details.

Vaccination Subsidy Scheme 2020/21 to start this Thursday

With the launch of the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS) 2020/21 this Thursday (October 8), the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) today (October 5) reminded eligible persons to receive a subsidised seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) in a timely manner to better protect themselves in the winter influenza season.

The eligible groups are Hong Kong residents who are:

• Persons aged 50 years or above;
• Children aged 6 months to under 12 years (or primary school students);
• Pregnant women;
• Persons with intellectual disabilities;
• Persons receiving Disability Allowance; or
• Persons who are recipients of the standard rate of "100% disabled" or "requiring constant attendance" under Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme.

Eligible groups can receive a subsidised influenza vaccination from enrolled private doctors in their clinics. The Government's subsidy for an SIV under the VSS is increased from $210 to $240 per dose for all eligible groups. Enrolled doctors' clinics may charge an extra fee while currently around 40 per cent of clinics do not charge an extra fee. Enrolled doctors will display the VSS logo near the entrance of their clinics and a pricing poster in the clinic showing their charges. The list of enrolled doctors and their service fees after deducting the government subsidy has been uploaded to the eHealth System (Subsidies) (
https://apps.hcv.gov.hk/Public/en/SPS/Search).

We would like to solicit your support to disseminate the information to your colleagues, work associates and/or business partners so that they could adopt proper preventive measures. Thank you very much for your support.

Updated information on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
The latest social distancing measures

The Government has been closely monitoring the latest development of the epidemic situation in Hong Kong and has decided to, unless the epidemic situation takes a sudden downturn, issue the new directions and specifications before this Friday to relax social distancing measures in a gradual and orderly manner. These directions and specifications would take effect from 0.00am August 28 and include:

(1) Extend the hours of dine-in services for catering businesses to 9pm and maintain other infection control measures.

(2) Re-open the following scheduled premises:
(a) Cinema,
(b) Beauty parlour,
(c) Some outdoor sports premises for activities involving little physical contact, namely athletic tracks in sports grounds; tennis and practice courts; golf courses; driving ranges and practice greens; bowling greens; shooting ranges; archery ranges; cycling parks; horse riding schools as well as radio-controlled model aircraft flying fields.

(3) Allow people not to wear masks in country parks.

In the meantime, the Government has gazetted amendments to expressly provide that engaging in any strenuous physical activity, including sports activity, in public places (except indoor areas) would be a reasonable excuse for not wearing a mask. The relevant amendment will take effect from August 28.

The Government will continue to closely monitor the development of the epidemic situation, and allow gradual resumption of normal daily lives of members of the public under the new normal, while striking a balance among disease prevention and control, economic needs and level of acceptance of the society.

With a view to increasing government job opportunities for non-ethnic Chinese (NEC), the Government completed in February 2018 a comprehensive review on the Chinese language proficiency requirements (LPRs) for all the civil service grades, increasing the total number of grades that have lowered/will lower their Chinese LPRs.

Please see below summary (or click here
of suitable civil service job vacancies (“the Summary”), including those with Chinese LPRs lowered after review and those with relatively lower Chinese LPRs (e.g. Chinese proficiency at secondary school level or below).   While the Summary will refer job seekers to the online Government Vacancies Enquiry System / Mobile Application for details of the listed job vacancies, the Chinese LPRs is provided in the Summary for easy reference by the NEC clients (including specifying whether non-local examination results would be accepted as equivalent results for meeting the Chinese LPRs).
